Built around the idea that players could create sandbox action-game and role-playing game worlds for their friends to play in, by the time that Nick Newhard, Virl Hill, and Jeffrey Hutt brought me onto the project, the title had been in development by a dozen developers and artists for four years with thousands of game items available for placement. But the outfit/fashion knowledge I gained from working this job ultimately saved my bacon later on in 2014, landing me a much-needed job with RockYou’s satellite office in Eugene, Oregon working on systems, games, and outfits for games like City Girl Life, Fashion Designer, and Mall World. But when an incoming exec scuttled the theme in the desire to generically rebrand the portal as “Orca”, the wealth of content was scuttled in the light of the new brand vision. A lot of Call of Cthulhu is set in the 1920’s and I love the time period – and coming onto Nick Newhard’s project to learn that the artists had already generated hundreds of themed character outfits and flapper outfits – as well as hundreds of art-nouveau style furniture pieces the players could populate their staterooms with – it was a visual feast. While Azur was designed as a kind of online portal for all of the top-tier games that Big Fish had to offer at the time, the fact that the setting for the game was based around a 1920’s style virtual cruise ship was fantastic news. She couldn't miss such a brilliant opportunity, she sent her article and… she got the job!
